After the apocalypse has killed off all the other guys
And in the park I find you crying underneath the fallout skies
You hug me like we’ve always been together through the crazy times
And then we raid deserted supermarkets for nostalgic finds
You grab the frozen cookie dough and I some stale Italian bread
We picnic by the river as the sunset flashes violet
We look into each other’s eyes a moment we will not forget
Though in my mind I know that even now you do not love me yet
After storms have sunk our ship we’re tigers on a lifeboat’s prow
The rations last, and then we fish together with our paws held out
The sky at night is beautiful and gleaming with a thousand stars
But even seas of rainbow beasts still fail to compete with your heart
We somehow beach in Italy and kindly raid the pizza shops
We fade in Tuscan jungles bathing sun among the golden crops
And even though this should be it, the day that you and I are one
I look into your tiger eyes and see that you’re still far from won
After all the schools have closed and you and I are finally free
We spend our summer having fun and dancing till we cannot breathe
Herro Sugar, Strumpet, and Sweet Thursday making new CD’s
Everybody’s wishes coming true and strumming major keys
Someday I will ask you out and you will say that’s good with me
We go someplace generic and we talk about what indie means
And by some crazy miracle I look in to your eyes and see
That even though we’ve barely met I think you are in love with me

Darling you don't have to be so perfect for me
I just want to wake up and see you without your makeup and be happy
You know I'd do anything for you
I'd order pizza even if I didn't want to have pizza
Darling you know that I'd do anything for you
I'd even talk to strangers if we got lost and not even complain at all
Darling I know we are destined
To do something epic
And I may not know what that is
I would lasso the moon for one kiss
Darling you don't have to be so perfect for me
I just want to wake up and see you without your makeup and be happy
You know I'd do anything for you
I'd ride a bike around a lake if you would like to bike around a lake and be fit
Darling I would do anything for you
I'd attend yoga classes and look like an idiot in front of masses of middle-aged women
Darling I know we are destined
To do something epic
And I may not know what that is
I would lasso the moon for one kiss
Darling you don't have to be so perfect for me
I just want to wake up and see you without your makeup and be happy
Cuz that's who I am
And if I'm right about who you are
We may not have been born under the same moon, under the same star
But that doesn't matter to me
Darling you don't have to be so perfect for me
I just want to wake up and see you without your makeup and be happy
Darling you don't have to be so perfect for me
I just want to wake up and see you without your makeup and be happy

Sunlight

I want sunlight
I want sunlight
In a room
A/C air
And plastic chairs
In a room
Sterile dirt
Carpet squares
I want to rip
The furniture
Into the earth
A garden in
My family room
See what it’s worth
I want sunlight
I want sunlight
Concrete fields
Metal trees
Chlorine seas
Stripping homes
Of breathing souls
Turned enemies
I want to rip
Architecture
Into the earth
A jungle in
An indoor mall
A virgin birth
I want sunlight
I want sunlight

And I said
Oh where you going
And I said
I got a spotlight
And I said
Follow you round
And I said
Star in the night
And I said
Oh where you headed
And I said
I got a map
And I said
We could go running
And I said
Every lap
We could be so great together I just want to share your weather
We could be so great together I just want to share your weather
And I said
Oh what ya saying
And I said
I got a sentence
And I said
I was so stupid
And I said
Give me repentance
And I said
Oh what ya saying
And I said
I want to be here
And I said
Part of a family
And I said
Part of your atmosphere
We could be so great together I just want to share your weather
We could be so great together I just want to share your weather

If our parents knew where we really drove
Through the neighborhoods and at twenty over
But no they’ll never know
If our parents knew that we danced and sang
Standing out moon-roofs in the city lanes
But no they’ll never know
It’s hard to tell which rules
Are there to help us out
They seem to knock us down so far
But
I feel I’ve lived here so long
In a place I don’t belong
But I could belong here with you
Pushing all the harmless laws
In some war that’ll never resolve
Alight in our dying youth
Guess our parents used to just slowly drive
Through the neighborhoods at twenty five
But no I’ll never know
Guess our parents used to sit still and ride
In a silent car, just passing by
But no we’ll never know
It’s hard to tell which rules
Were there to help them out
They may have followed every step
But
If they lived there so long
Somewhere they did not belong
Could they sleep the whole thing through
Or did they push the harmless laws
In some war that’ll never resolve
Alight in their dying youth
Should we just scrap all the plans and
Wipe X’s off of our hands and
Forget we ever tried to be cool
And when we grow up and the culture’s
Left us in dust will we really
Stand up so proud in some spotless suit
I am so in love with riding on a highway going 90 in a
hurricane of laughter in a flood of drums and lightening
spinning faster even faster in a dream of girls and glory trying
so hard just to live until our days become a story that is
beautiful and painful with a soundtrack that is sacred that is
elegant and terrible with rides into the sunset where we’re
speeding and we’re drowning in the danger that we no longer can
see
But
I feel I’ve lived here so long
In a place I don’t belong
But I could belong here with you
Pushing all the harmless laws
In some war that’ll never resolve
Alight in our dying youth

Asleep

If in some valley I have
lost the way
Will the rivers and the
shadows take me back
I am waiting on the
stones shedding days
Till they shine as silver
stars among the black
At the end of all
In hospital sheets
We will touch the ground
With nostalgia feet
And just barely live
And alight in peace
After wake for centuries
Asleep
If in some forest I’ve
myself mislead
Will the pine needles and
Mosses guide my shoes
I am waiting on the
leaves blushing red
Till the fires ripple
Underneath the blues
At the end of all
In hospital sheets
We will touch the ground
With nostalgia feet
And just barely live
And alight in peace
After wake for centuries
Asleep
If in some cold soul I’ve
stumbled in
Will the splinters and the
Shivers wake my mind
Don’t leave me waiting
On the sunlight now
To turn the icebergs and the
glaciers into wine
At the end of all
In hospital sheets
We will touch the ground
With nostalgia feet
And just barely live
And alight in peace
After wake for centuries
Asleep
If in some heaven I’ve
locked myself
Will you come and tell me
That I’ve got the key
I am waiting for
My only friend to
Remind me why I wanted
To be free
At the end of all
In hospital sheets
We will touch the ground
With nostalgia feet
And just barely live
And alight in peace
After wake for centuries
Asleep
